15 months check up

At 15 months:
Weight: 22LB 2 oz (10036 grams), gained 2LB from three months ago check up.
Height: 31.25" (79cm), gained 3", wow....
Head Circumference: 19.5" (50cm)- big head

The last check up was 3 months ago. You would think he won't recognize doctor office at all. But as soon as I undressed him for weight check with the nurse besides us, he started to cry. No one has even touched him yet with any strange tools. Then later when doctor came in, Yoshi started to feel uncomfortable as I could tell. To sum up Yoshi's struggle ~ here's doctor's quote: " It's quite normal for kids to react this way at 15 months check up. It's definitely a good sign to see him kicking with his legs, this means strong bones......." I just LAUGHED the entire time.... well, don't tell Yoshi, but he will have to experience this all over again next Tuesday, as we will be back for vaccination shots. We didn't do those today as he just recovered from the stomach flu. Hope there will be more stickers for him in doctor office, as they seem to be having a calming effect......

Oh, here are few Q&A from the visit:
Me: "Yoshi's stomach is sticking out, big belly, is it normal?"
Dr: "Yes, it's quite normal"

Me: "Yoshi is drooling a lot, A LOT, is it normal & how long will it last usually?"
Dr: "Yes, it's normal & he has lots of teeth. Usually up till 2 yrs old."

Be thankful

I always say ~ as much as we have been wanting a baby for a while, NOTHING can prepare us on what comes with the "baby package". That's exactly what had happened on Tuesday afternoon.

As I was driving home with Yoshi from a store, just as I got off the highway exit, look at the rear mirror and there Yoshi started to throw up. So I pulled into a parking lot, and got him out of the car. He felt relief perhaps, all I remember saying to him was "It's ok, it's ok...." Of course, I didn't have any backup clothes in my bag (didn't it always happen that way?!), luckily I have a bunch of towels, so I wraped around him with his diaper only all the way home. He was fine afterwards, just a bit tired. .....well, make long story short, he did throw up once more after going to bed in 30 mins, luckily Nori was home by then, so there was extra help. It was a long long night. Yesterday we didn't do anything as I was feeling upset stomach, I think there was a stomach flu going around, just hope that Nori won't catch the same thing from us......... well, today we are feeling much better. It seems like just a quick 24 hrs flu went by.

Though seeing little Yoshi throw up was a horrified scene, but u know what, afterall, there are lots to be thankful for:

- luckily it happened after I got off the highway, can't imagine where to pull off if I'm driving on the busy highway....

- luckily on the way driving home, Yoshi was still able to give me smiles to calm me down...

- luckily Nori was home when it happened again, so I won't be over panic....

- luckily Nori forced me to take 2 pills last night for my stomach flu, so I could sleep well (yes, I hate hate hate medicines!!)

- luckily..............luckily we are all feeling better now.

- As a bonus ~ I think Nori figures out how a car seat is made, because we have to totally dis-assemble it for cleaning...

You know...sometimes we just have to think a little different, then situation wasn't that bad afterall.

So happy to see his smile and energy back (strolling at the park this afternoon)

New menu

Nori has been saying this to me several times: "Does Yoshi always eat the same thing everyday?"

In fact, yes, I have been introducing new food to Yoshi in a very slow pace. Part of it is because I try to give him healthy food, so without any sugar, salt, oil.... the cooking methods are pretty limited. For example:

- BREAKFAST: oatmeal mix with fruits. I have just recently subsitute formula with whole milk in oatmeal. And I tried to put different fruits each time (strawberries, kiwi, blueberries & pear). Then follow by half an apple.

- LUNCH: most of the time is soup noodle/pasta with different meat (beef/ chicken/ pork),egg & vegetables (tomato, onion, carrot, cucumber, cabbage & tofu). Sometimes I do steam egg + meat. Then followed by side item like mash sweet potato/ squash/ potato.

- AFTERNOON TEA TIME: Milk (still trying half formula & half whole milk, he prefers formula) + banana & cookie snacks.

- DINNER: Always congee (rice) + meat & vegetable (spinach/ brocolli)

- BEFORE BED TIME: Milk

Yoshi is pretty good with his meals, not being too picky at all. Unless I'm giving him something new, then we will have to go thru a trial phrase. Yesterday, I have decided to take Nori's "request", and cook his lunch in a different way. I even used tiny drops of olive oil for pan fry. Ingredients are about the same- tomato, beef, onion, carrot, eggplant & egg. It's pretty tasty even without salt. And guess what's his reaction........................(see below photos yourself). The struggle last for about 30 mins, took few bites here and there. Long story short~ he was playing with his food and flipped the bowl upside down. Well, it takes patience for sure, will try again today before exploring something else.

Just curious: What are some of your kids' favorite menu when he's around 15 months old?

Breakfast: oatmeal + blended fruits

Don't mess with me

Auntie Anna, thanks for the outfit, finally it fits Yoshi, perfect timing. I'm sure no kids would mess with him after seeing that huge dragon at his back. Next time, find one with a big budda at the back. ^_^

Sharon Woods

I took Yoshi to Sharon Woods for a little walk today. It's a bit hot, but we had a fun relaxing time. Now that Yoshi starts walking, it's nice to take him out everywhere. Can't wait for more cooler Autumn to come.

Yoshi likes squatting, he could survive in those Chinese public bathrooms.
Mama, stop taking photos .........
and stop kissing me in public....
Perhaps Yoshi was trying to tell his ducky friends to stay little longer...but he forgot they only speak quack quack language............

We're back

So what happen to the blog update?

Two days ago~"Oh no, internet is not working......"

Spent my entire1.5 hrs on the phone with internet cable company, while Yoshi was taking nap. Learnt all different computer languages, downloading, unstalling different softwares..... result: still not working....doesn't seem to be connection problem, maybe something wrong with the computer. (& there it went my valuable free time on the phone with the stranger)

Yesterday~ "Still not working", here comes Uncle Henry's help

After spending 30 mins installing and uninstalling more softwares......result: still not working. But then, Henry asked "Have u check the plugs at the back of the computer?"

OH........the modem line was unplugged!!! Is that it??? Wala, INTERNET IS BACK!!!!

(Duh..............................................................................................................................................)

Here is a video of Yoshi dancing to "Mary had a little lamb", thanks Obaa-chan for the Japanese song CD.

SPLASH!!!

Today, we did something just for little Yoshi. We took him to the water playground (Woodland Mound). It's a lot of fun (Poki, thx for the swim diaper, fit perfectly...) (Susannah, yes, we finally made it there). It's really great seeing little Yoshi having so much fun, especially with Nori by his side. Hope to take him back there again before summer ends. Love spending family time together.
