Yoshi's 6th birthday party- LEGO

Yesterday was Yoshi's 6th birthday & party. It was one of the most fun party we had- LEGO theme. Because it's LEGO- so everyone can participate and even Nori had helped out so much, we all enjoyed a lot.
This is one of my favorite pic of the day- totally capturing the kids' excitement...
The kids had to use a spoon to carry the lego pieces and drop into buckets. Let's see which team was fastest.

Nori- "Mr. Bingo". We did a Lego version of bingo game...

I bought an ice-cream cake as base, then we used Lego pieces as cake topper. Nori picked a perfect Iron Man cake topper which is Yoshi's favorite. This was the moment when Yoshi first saw his surprised cake.... he's so excited. All he care afterwards was when he could play with the lego pieces...^_^

The final game- build your own lego cars and race....(and they got to take the car home)

This was Kiharu's drawing on Yoshi's birthday card- family portrait.

Sports day at Japanese school- hosuko

Yesterday was Sports day at Japanese school. The weather wasn't that stable, but luckily, it was perfectly fine after a cloudy morning. Right when we left the field, it started pouring rain. We were all soaking wet at the parking lot, felt like we just went swimming in the ocean.... We had a fun time watching the kids playing and also talking to our parent friends.

Yoshi got 3rd at the running race (3rd out of 4 kids in his round...^_^)
There were few parent participating game. Nori did the tama i re (throwing ball into basket). And I did a dancing game with Yoshi.
As for Kiharu, although she is not a student yet at kindergarten (next year), but she got to participate in a preschooler game... see video below..

Yoshi did this at hosuko (Japanese school) for mother's day. So cute...

Kiharu starts drawing family portrait lately.... it's so cute...

Our family on the left, and two extra smiley faces... but she said don't know who they are....?!
Here are some random photos from last week when we were at the park.... love picking up the camera and did some random silly laugh photos of the kids...

こどもの日 (Japanese Children's Day) 5/5

We had never really celebrate Children's day before. But this year, I thought it would be fun to let the kids do some cooking and enjoy the day together.
We started our day with preparing special pancakes. They love being the "helpers". But I must say, this joint cooking requires lots of patience (from my part)

Kiharu took a rare nap late morning, so it was a perfect (& more peaceful) time to let Yoshi tried making simple pasta together.

Then after dinner, we had a cake for dessert. Surely our stomach was completely full by the end of the day. But we really enjoy this "children's day" together. They grow so fast, I will miss this very much in a few years...

Library

Recently, we have been to the library a lot. Now that Kiharu is able to pick out her book (princess, cartoon character...), it's fun to go there. They love picking out their books (along with my selection) We would borrow at least 15 books at a time, and soon, we would be back for more. It's a great way to keep them away from too much TV, and we enjoy the afternoon/ bedtime story.

For English, Yoshi is still learning  to recognize"sight words". But he enjoys looking at all the pictures to guess the meaning. Then when I have time, I will read with him. The other day after I read to him once, I told him to read to Kiharu. So he did, and Kiharu loves listening to her big brother. It doesn't happen often, usually, they are reading on their own.

(I cannot figure out why the photos being upload strangely... will try again some other time)
