Kaori, matane! (see ya)

My good friend Kaori has left to Japan for good today. Back in college, me and Nori used to hang out with a large group of friends. After graduation, almost everyone went back to their home country. Kaori was the last one standing here besides us. Before kids, we used to hang out a lot after work, she would be my girl's night out buddy, my Italian cuisine friend, my spa adventure friend..... though we don't see as often after kids, and living further away, but we can always count on each other when needed. I'm so happy and excited for her new chapter in life, moving back to Japan. Can't wait to see her soon. (Kaori, ganbatte-nei!!)

Mini getaway

Today we went to visit my friend/ old neighbour- Natasha's new house. Their house is located in a very beautiful wooded area, almost felt like a mountain retreat. It didn't take long for Yoshi to warm up with Parker & Maya again, just like the old days when we hung out at our backyard.

The photo below was taken by Yoshi. Not until tonight that I saw the big smile of Kiharu. She was definitely smiling/ laughing at her brother behind the camera.

(Thanks Natasha, we had a great time!!)

Have u ever WONDER?

Yoshi was born with lots of hair, he had his first haircut at 5 months old. Kiharu is the opposite, it will probably take her at least a year or more to catch up with her brother..... just wonder how she would look like with more hair?! can't wait to put a little clip or pony tail on her hair.........

(I need to do a better job using photoshop....)

Museums

Before having kids, me and Nori travelled a lot for vacations. One of my great interest was to explore "shopping outlets'....who knew few years later, I'm more into researching for "museums".

On Sunday morning, we had our first road trip with Kiharu to Detroit (5 hrs drive). The purpose was to stop by the Japanese embassy. But since it's Father's Day, I made a special plan to take the boys to Henry Ford Museum. Who wouldn't like cars, planes, trains.... now that Yoshi is so much into transportation, it's a lot of fun to take him visiting museums, he got so excited seeing the huge machines. When he was inside a train display, he even shouted out "All Aboard!".

P.s- Kiharu did very well on her first road trip. Sleep, eat, look around, then sleep again...zzzzz

Happy Father's (& Grandpa's) Day.

This morning at 5:45a.m.---
"Yoshi, wake up...u have to get changed and go"
Zzzzzzzzzzz
"Yoshi, wake up..."
Zzzzzzzzzzz
"Yoshi, wake up, u are going out with Otousan today and have fun."
"O-t-o-u-s-a-n, asobo!!!!" (play together)
Only at that moment, I wished I have the camera with me to capture Yoshi's big (sleepy) smile & excitement.

Today was Yoshi's first off roading trip with Nori. After waiting for 3 years, Nori could finally take Yoshi together and enjoy the off roading fun. Nori doesn't do that often as it's hard to be away from family. But now, finally he can take Yoshi there. I was so excited for their bonding time as well.

While father and son went out of town (3 hrs away), me and Kiharu went shopping. We sure "shop till we drop" today. I asked myself, which stores I wanted to go without needing to worry about watching over Yoshi....my list was so long. (afterall, how often do I get this chances without having to worry about hurrying back home to cook or feed...) So we were out for half a day- 4 stops, 6 stores, 2 feedings inside spaceous changing rooms.... what a great mental therapy. But physically, I'm tired, as I was holding Kiharu or putting her in the baby carrier, so she won't have to sit in the car seat too long.

What a fun day!! Happy Father's (& Grandpa's) Day!!

Soccer fever

I have started to feed small bite of rice to Kiharu. Being child #2, it's definitely a slower start. After few days of trying, she seems to show more interest, especially when she was hungry. Kitchen is getting more busy from now on.....

Hope we did make the right decision (for right now)

About a month ago, doctor had referred us to take Kiharu to visit the plastic surgery department at the Cincinnati Children Hospital. The concern was about Kiharu's head shape. Because she has a preference to sleep on her left side, so it's obviously more flat on her left head shape. By the time when we notice, she was already close to 4 months.

Long story short, the plastic surgeon did recommend helmet to treat the "plagiocephaly".(click on the word for more detail information). It was a huge debate on our part about this treatment, consider it's more of cosmetic purpose. At the end of the day, we decided to hold off on the helmet due to the upcoming trip back to Asia, which will be lacking of routine check up. (once u wear the helmet, constant follow up checking is needed in case of reshaping the helmet for fitting)

Starting from today, once a week, Kiharu is having a physical therapy treatment. It's more easing the neck muscle, worrying it would get too tense on her right side. Today's treatment started off in a bad way, she was crying the entire hour because it's right at her nap time, and who would want someone to turn tilt your head while sleepy...I don't blame her..^_^ luckily these exercises were easy to do on our own at home, when she was in much better mood. And we did notice she is turning her head both side while awake and asleep, so it's a good sign for improvement.

And recently, she starts to turn around, sleep sideway, and even able to sit up in bumbo seat. I don't remember how soon all these happen during 5th month. It's so much fun seeing all these. Hopefully, these will also help to lift the pressure on her head.

Bottom line, she is a happy baby (well....most of the time....if she isn't sleepy), healthy & enjoy having Yoshi around. That's all matter the most.

Oh no....daddy's gene....T-V.
